Special Session - The Future Directions of Dialogue-Based Intelligent Personal Assistants
نویسندگان
چکیده
Today is the era of intelligent personal assistants. All the major tech giants have introduced personal assistants as the front end of their services, including Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, Facebook’s M, and Amazon’s Alexa. Several of these companies have also released bot toolkits so that other smaller companies can join the fray. However, while the quality of conversational interactions with intelligent personal assistants is crucial for their success in both business and personal applications, fundamental problems, such as discourse processing, computational pragmatics, user modeling, and collecting and annotating adequate real data, remain unsolved. Furthermore, the intelligent personal assistants of tomorrow raise a whole set of new technical problems. The special SIGDIAL session "The Future of Dialogue-Based Intelligent Personal Assistants" holds a panel discussion with notable academic and industry players, leading to insights on future directions. Time Table ● Introduction (15 minutes) ○ Overview of the session ○ Introduction of the panels ● Panel Discussion (75 minutes) ○ Short position talks ○ Discussion ○ QA and summary Organizers ● Yoichi Matsuyama, Postdoctoral Fellow, Human-Computer Interaction Institute / Language Technologies Institute, Carnegie Mellon University ● Alexandros Papangelis, Research Scientist, Toshiba Cambridge Research Laboratory Advisory Board ● Justine Cassell, Associate Dean of the School of Computer Science for Technology Strategy and Impact, Carnegie Mellon University Panelists ● Steve Young, Professor of Information Engineering, Information Engineering Division, University of Cambridge ● Jeffrey P. The Smart Personal Assistant: An Overview
The Smart Personal Assistant (SPA) enables users to access e-mail and calendar information using natural language dialogue through a PDA platform. The user interface to the SPA must present the system as a single unified set of backend task assistants, enabling the user to conduct a dialogue in which it is easy to switch between these domains. The SPA is implemented using an agent platform and ...
متن کاملPrediction of Prospective User Engagement with Intelligent Assistants
Intelligent assistants on mobile devices, such as Siri, have recently gained considerable attention as novel applications of dialogue technologies. A tremendous amount of real users of intelligent assistants provide us with an opportunity to explore a novel task of predicting whether users will continually use their intelligent assistants in the future. We developed prediction models of prospec...
متن کاملLetUs Assist: An Architecture for Coordinating Community-Based Collaborative Personal Assistant Intelligent Agents
Personal Assistants working within a common interest social community has special characteristics stemmed from the common profile that is usually inherent in the community. Personal assistants should consult their own preference profile, the community common profile and the profiles of other peers of the community. In this research, we propose an architecture for an environment to handle such u...
متن کاملUser Modelling for Live Help Systems
We have explored the role of user modelling in live help systems for e-commerce web sites. There are several potential benefits with user modelling in this context: 1) Human assistants can use the personal information in the user models to provide the users with efficient support tailored to their personal needs; 2) Assistants can be more comfortable in their supporting role; 3) Consultation re...
متن کاملIdentifying User Sessions in Interactions with Intelligent Digital Assistants
Search sessions have traditionally been considered as the focal unit of analysis for seeking behavioral insights from user interactions. While most session identification techniques have focused on the traditional web search setting; in this work, we instead consider user interactions with digital assistants (e.g. Cortana, Siri) and aim at identifying session boundary cut-offs. To our knowledge...
